    OpendTect’s Attribute Engine: Full Control Over Seismic Analysis

    Most seismic interpretation systems give you a library of attributes. OpendTect gives you the ability to design your own attribute engine workflows from first principles. That distinction matters.

    OpendTect did not “add” attributes later — it was originally built as an attribute engine. The result is an architecture where attributes are not fixed tools, but composable building blocks.

    What this means in practice: • Use the library — or build from scratch You can apply a wide range of standard attributes and filters, but you are not limited to them. You can construct completely new attributes using mathematical expressions, logical operators, and intermediate results. • Attribute chaining as a processing graph Attributes can be derived from other attributes, forming multi-step workflows. This enables complex transformations without exporting data or writing external code. • Dip-steered computation (structurally consistent) Processing can follow local reflector dip, ensuring that attributes honor geological structure rather than vertical sampling artifacts. • Interactive parameter testing Attribute behavior can be evaluated and tuned in real time on subsets of the data before committing to full-volume computation. • Distributed computation at scale Large 3D volumes can be processed efficiently using distributed resources, making advanced workflows computationally feasible.

    The key point: There is no other system that offers this level of user control over what you compute and how you compute it — within a single integrated environment.

    If your workflow is constrained by predefined attributes, you are not fully exploring your data.
